Occurring on the second Thursday of each month through May 2017, each evening will feature Wallace joined by selected poets to present poems addressing the theme of Food\u00a0and Sustenance. Following the presentation, there will be an audience Q&amp;A.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong> Free<br \/>\n<strong>Location:<\/strong> Series takes place in The Dali Museum Theater<\/p>\n<h3>Host<\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"row \">\n<div class=\"column one-quarter \"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5845\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thedali.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Poetry-at-The-Dali-Helen-Pruitt-Wallace.jpg?resize=300%2C220\" alt=\"Poetry at The Dali-Helen Pruitt Wallace\" width=\"300\" height=\"220\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"column three-quarter \">\n<p><strong>Helen Pruitt Wallace<\/strong><br \/>\nHelen has been selected to serve as Poet Laureate of St. Petersburg beginning in January 2016. Her first collection of poems, Shimming the Glass House (published by Ashland Poetry Press) won the Richard Snyder Prize for Poetry and a bronze Florida Book Award. She served as co-editor of the anthology Isle of Flowers published by Anhinga Press, and individual poems have been published in several journals and anthologies. She\u2019s received a McKay Shaw Academy of American Poets Award, The dA Center for the Arts Poetry Award, a residency fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and a Tennessee Williams Scholarship from the Sewanee Writers\u2019 Conference. She earned her Ph.D. in English\/Creative Writing from Florida State University, and teaches poetry and nonfiction at Eckerd College. She and her husband Peter both grew up in St. Petersburg, and raised their children here.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Poet<\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"row \">\n<div class=\"column one-quarter \"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-9705 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/beta.thedali.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/rita-1.png?resize=300%2C261\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"261\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"column three-quarter \">\n<p><strong>Rita Martinez<\/strong><br \/>\nRita Maria Martinez loves all things Jane Eyre. Her poetry collection, The Jane and Bertha in Me (Aldrich Press, 2016), celebrates Charlotte Bronte\u2019s classic novel and the bicentenary of the author\u2019s birth. Her poetry also appears in the textbook Three Genres: The Writing of Fiction\/Literary Nonfiction, Poetry and Drama and in the anthology Burnt Sugar, Cana Quemada: Contemporary Cuban Poetry in English and Spanish. Martinez has been a featured author for the Miami Book Fair; the Orange Island Arts Foundation; and the Palabra Pura reading series in Chicago. She is a guest contributor for the Poets&amp;Artists blog and a writing consultant for Nova Southeastern University. She lives in Miami, Florida.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Poet<\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<div class=\"row \">\n<div class=\"column one-quarter \"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9704 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/beta.thedali.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/erica-300x261.png?resize=300%2C261\" alt=\"erica\" width=\"300\" height=\"261\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"column three-quarter \">\n<p><strong>Erica Dawson<\/strong><br \/>\nErica\u2019s first collection of poems, Big-Eyed Afraid, won the 2006 Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize and was published by Waywiser Press in 2007. Her poems have appeared in Best American Poetry, Birmingham Poetry Review, Harvard Review, Literary Imagination, VQR, and other journals and anthologies. Sh<span class=\"_dgc\">e lives in Tampa, Florida, where she teaches at The University of Tampa in both the undergraduate English and Writing program and the MFA in Creative Writing low-residency program.
